Why Choose Beach Cities Medicine?

PERSONALIZATION

Your needs are unique. From your genetics to your lifestyle, from your medical challenges to your strengths, ‘Cookbook Medicine’ – just isn’t. We study best practices and keep up on the latest research in medicine, however, the intersection of these sciences with the mind and body you inhabit is as much an art as a science and it needs to be personalized. By focusing our full attention on fewer people, we can individualize the care of each patient as we would want for our own family.

COMMUNICATION

Trees in a forest are things of beauty, however phone trees almost never are. We endeavor to optimize every channel of communication the way we would want as patients ourselves. Just want to schedule an appointment? Your appointment is just a few clicks away online. Routine requests? Email works great for that. Yes, we still believe in telephones and you’re free to call us anytime. And if our patients really are in a pinch, they have my cellphone number for urgent needs as well. One way or another – we’ve got you.

DEDICATION

Our practice is fully dedicated to our members. While we enjoy great relationships with our local hospitals and specialists, we answer to nobody but you. Whether it be an after-hours visit or a housecall, taking the time to thoughtfully research alternatives in your treatment, or simply taking the time to explain things in a way that you understand and are empowered in your own health – we are dedicated to ensuring your optimal health at every turn.

INTEGRATION

It is a true privilege to have highly qualified, world-class experts right here in our own backyard. However, one of the unintended consequences of receiving treatment from multiple specialists is the fragmentation of care that very often comes with it. As your ‘Medical Quarterback’, I help advise you on choosing the plays and the players, and I take the ‘time in pocket’ to ensure everything comes together well without gaps in your care.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Beach Cities Medicine different?
3
5

As opposed to a volume-based medical practice, Beach Cities Medicine is focused on being a personalized, patient-focused medical practice, built from the start around optimizing the patient experience and optimizing your health. Enrolled patients can expect to receive the same high standard of care we have always endeavored to provide – but more of it! With appointment times twice as long, we will have more time to ensure that each visit is on time and yet unhurried, comprehensive and yet scientifically sound, honest and yet compassionate. We are designing our schedule to allow for research into your medical questions, coordination of your care, and responsiveness and availability to your needs in ways that high-volume businesses simply cannot provide.

Why a membership fee?

5

Volume-based primary care relies on many small insurance payments to sustain itself in the absence of support from larger institutions. Unfortunately, this model of healthcare is often impersonal, inconvenient, fragmented, and very hurried. Financial incentives are not aligned with quality patient experiences. In contrast, at Beach Cities Medicine, we have very limited enrollment in order to allow us to design the entire experience around what is best for you. An annual fee allows us to not require the flood of rushed visits and instead to focus all of our energy on optimizing the quality of service, personalized attention, and depth of care for our patients in an unhurried, comprehensive, and personalized manner.

What if I need to see a specialist?

As a broadly-trained family and sports medicine physician, one of Dr. Wallis’s great joys has always been to be able to take excellent care of the vast majority of patients’ needs. However, we also love being able to connect a patient in need with exceptional specialists – and the better we know our patients and my consultants, the better a connection we can facilitate. In our new practice model, we will be more able to not only recommend great specialists for your needs, but also optimize communication with them and collaborate on your care.

How do I contact my physician?
3

Of course, if you have a life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately. You can call us afterward so that we can assist in your care. For routine matters, depending on the urgency, you may reach out by phone, email, or through our patient portal.

Do I still need insurance?
3
5

Yes, our membership fee is not a replacement for medical insurance. We accept most PPO insurances and Medicare, and your usual payment obligations (copays, etc) still apply just as they would anywhere else.
